Signage for Brussels

Signage

The municipalities of Anderlecht, Etterbeek, Molenbeek and Saint-Gilles initiated this study on urban signage.
Its purpose is to develop a global signage system to facilitate multi-modal travel. Our approach is not to increase the number of existing posts, but use elements already available in the urban landscape as much as possible.
The result is a set consisting of directional badges placed on existing poles, cartographic portholes on façades, murals on blank walls, nails in the ground, and a three-dimensional map.
Following a preliminary audit with the various stakeholders: municipalities, « Atriums », the Brussels Region, the STIB, Visit Brussels, Benoit Moritz (planning consultant), the study concluded on full signage specifications (graphic and technical plans) and implementation plans.
